At the end of 2016, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) reported that commercial disputes now cost small businesses in England and Wales £11.6bn a year.
Mike Cherry, national chair of the FSB, said: “Disputes are inevitable in business, but many small firms don’t have the time or resources to deal with them effectively.
“The dispute resolution process faced by small businesses in England and Wales is costly and complicated.”
It is certainly true that disputes can have serious consequences for companies which is why Shears Law has a service dedicated to resolving matters quickly and without the need to pursue matters through the courts.
Skilled mediation allows companies to reach practical agreements as it is also undeniable that ‘cost’ adds up to more than a matter of finance.
Commercial disputes demand time and energy, when business owners and senior management need to focus on day-to-day operations.
Cases are regularly settled through mediation and even if discussions breakdown, it demonstrates to the court that your business has acted reasonably and made all efforts to reach a resolution.
A direct approach can often be the one that pays dividends.
